31-Mar-08 Singapore, March 31, 2008 - Asia-Pacific business intelligence consultancy, Fusion Consulting, released survey results that show that cosmetics manufacturers based in China are increasingly turning to natural and safer product ingredients, driven by growing foreign and local environmental and toxicology concerns. In a Fusion Consulting survey of 80 senior managers and middle managers representing the largest cosmetics and personal care companies based in China in late 2007, 82% of the respondents plan to increase their research & development expenditures on natural, healthy and safe products over 2008 to 2009. ‘Bio-active’ extract and natural plant additives are some of the ingredients being explored by cosmetics manufacturers. In the same survey, 88% of the cosmetics and personal care business representative surveyed agreed that the issue of toxicology in the industry is important.
The good news is that China’s local market itself offers good potential. With their long history in using natural herbs for medicine, Chinese consumers are receptive towards natural and organic cosmetic products. Greater industry awareness and traditional preferences for natural ingredients stemming back to ancient Chinese medical practices, create a good platform to build China’s next ‘Body Shops’.
