23-Aug-07 Hong Kong, August 23, 2007 – Macau’s IT industry is expected to grow at about 8% a year to 2010, with companies in the gaming and hospitality industries leading in IT investment, according to recent research by Fusion Consulting, a business intelligence consultancy with offices in Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong. Representing 43% of total IT spending in 2006, casinos reported spending an average of US$400,000 to US$2.6 million per annum on IT products and services. This has not gone unnoticed by global IT players such as HP, IBM, Dell, Sun and Microsoft, all of which have established local operations in Macau to tap into the opportunity presented by more than ten new casinos due to launch over the next three to five years. Demand is expected to be high for products and solutions that are designed to be easy to deploy and manage. Because of shortage of skilled IT talent in Macau, many companies would want solutions which require minimal support and that can help to reduce reliance on in-house IT staff. Industry specific solutions designed to solve the IT requirements of hotels, resorts and casinos will also be in demand. In addition, focused solutions such as document lifecycle management, and solutions that combine software, server and storage technology and services support will be popular. In terms of the hardware market, servers, storage and printers will make up the bulk of the demand. "With many new multinationals entering the market, Macau businesses need to continue to identify ways of differentiating their products or services in order to maintain and grow customer share. Businesses across banking, casino and hotels invariably are turning to IT systems and solutions as one means to improve the delivery, quality and cost effectiveness of their products and services,” said Nicolas Pechet, Strategy Director at Fusion Consulting. “Macau’s casinos for example, require solutions covering every aspect of their operations; ranging from inventory management and room pricing optimization to table reservation systems for their restaurants. They can use such systems to monitor churn rates of tables at their restaurants and the effectiveness of various promotions.” elaborated Mr. Pechet.
