1. How do you provide better value-for-money than management consultants?
We maintain a community of 400 freelance consultants in 16 Asia Pacific countries from which we select the right team to gather business intelligence for each project - not only more cost effective but also more efficient than sending full-time staff into the country to scale a steep learning curve. In-house we employ experienced people with complementary skills and a hands-on approach to developing strategies, not simply academically qualified individuals of the top business schools.

2. What are the advantages of using Fusion Consulting instead of a single-industry specialist consultancy?
Our focus is providing strategies, not finding out everything there is to know about a market. We deliver recommendations supported by key pieces of knowledge germane to the issue in hand and the realities of the Asian market being investigated. We believe industry expertise is crucial, but we go one step further by applying the learnings and best practices we identify in one sector to the others, within each Asian country.

3. Your strategies are based on business intelligence, but how do you get the business intelligence?
Our industry-specialist consultants collect information from a full-circle of sources. Their key activity is interviews with the main players in the target sector, these companies' business partners, industry experts, analysts and observers. This is complemented by secondary research from public sources like news articles, trade publications, annual reports, government statistics and financial analysts' reports. Field observation, eg. retail checks and factory visits, completes the picture.

4. How do you ensure data quality when using freelance consultants to gather business intelligence?
All our consultants have expertise in one of the industries we service, so they are familiar with relevant information sources and issues at hand. They work to a tight brief and we communicate frequently during a project, applying our project management and coaching experience. In-house we have developed cross-referencing and data quality control methods to help validate consultants' findings, sometimes against third party sources, before they are analysed.

5. What experience do you have in my industry?
Our directors all have at least ten years experience in industry and consulting. Each industry practice is headed up by a director or analyst with a successful consulting track record in that industry. A few of the several hundred companies our directors have helped succeed in Asia include Amex, AXA, BOC, BUPA, China Mobile, Dibcom, Dow Corning, Dupont, Epson, IBM, Motorola, PCCW, Reed Elsevier, Reuters and Visa.

6. If I use Fusion Consulting will it be different from my experience with a management consultant, where they used models that were impractical and difficult to implement?
Yes. Consulting frameworks and models help to simplify complex business issues. This allows the client to understand the flow of the problem-solving process easily. Management Consultants usually use this principle in a 'fit-all' way by applying the same model to all 'similar' clients, not taking into account that all businesses are unique. At Fusion Consulting we use our frameworks only as one step towards reaching the final recommendations. Other inputs that we use include business intelligence peculiar to our client's competitive environment, our practical knowledge of Asian market dynamics, operational industry experience from our community of consultants, our cross-industry best practice, forward thinking and lots of common sense. This is what sets our approach apart.

7. Do you provide business intelligence software and data mining?
No. We gather external information on our clients' markets, competitors and potential partners. We then analyse that information to create intelligence, from which we define strategies matched to our clients' resources and capabilities, to help them succeed in their business objectives.

They are normally Directors or Senior Managers responsible for Strategic Planning, Marketing, Business Development, Market Intelligence or Competitive Intelligence.
